Sad, moved, upset, overwhelmed. Just watched the French movie “Jonas” (2018) on Netflix and its depiction of broken masculinity in a gay man was so moving. I think it’s a risky choice to crosscut between two storylines - there’s many examples in both film and literature when two good stories make a bad one together - but it is a very successful choice in this movie. Watching the eighteen year older version of the shy teenager works really well, especially since the both narratives together tells a story of the effects of trauma, first love, vulnerability and fragile (or maybe even broken) masculinity. And oh so liberating to watch something that isn’t in English!

Other movies that has touched me in similar ways: Icelandic movie “Rökkur” (2017) and Brazilian movie “Seashore” (2015). What’s your favourite movies about vulnerability and love?
